When a Danny Boyle comes from somewhere (alright Britain) and suddenly starts to talk of the Indian Film Industry as if he had grown up watching such movies, you tend to take note of this ignorant brashness (one of the comments he made on Indian actors: "They have got to look like they can rip their shirts off and get under the waterfall in the Swiss Alps or wherever they are filming"). One laughs wishing if only he had known more before commenting. So I've decided to put forth my list of movies :
1. 3 Idiots: Most definitely on the top of my list.
2. Guru: The true story of Dhirubhai Ambani and his rise in business.
3. Khosla Ka Ghosla: Watch it to believe why it is number 3 on my list.
4. Udaan: The frustrations of youth in small Indian towns.
5. Tare Zameen Par: Indescribable.
6. Rang De Basanti: Young medical students in India took to the streets protesting reservation. This movie was widely believed to have driven that fire.
7. Lagaan: Based on the life of peasants under British rule before Indian Independence.
8. Swades: Coming to terms with ones rural roots.
9. Rocket Singh: Trapped in the economy.
10. The Legend of Bhagat Singh: Based on the true life of Bhagat Singh before Indian Independence.
11. Kaminey: Well what can I say? Struggles of the not so monetarily stable.
12. Dev D: Very well received by the Indian audience! A masterpiece by Anurag Kahsyap.
13.Dil Chahata Hai:
14. Chak De:
Films not on the list but deserve a special mention:
Oye Lucky Lucky Oye:
Asoka:
Raajneeti:
